What the job is
This is a stewarding job first. You turn cabins, run laundry, serve breakfast, lunch and dinner, and stand interior watches like the rest of the team. The difference is that you also hold a recognised yoga teaching qualification, so when the owner or a charter guest wants a class at sunrise, you lead it. Yachts hire this dual role because a dedicated instructor costs a cabin, and many owners only want yoga a few times a week.
Classes usually happen on the sundeck, the foredeck or a beach after the tender run. Sessions are often one to one or for a small family group, and they range from gentle stretching for older guests to strong vinyasa for a fit charter party. You plan around anchorage, swell and wind, keep mats, blocks and straps clean and stowed, and adapt quickly when a guest has an injury or simply wants to breathe and relax.
The balance is the hard part. On a busy charter you may teach at 07:00, serve breakfast at 08:30 and still be on dinner service at 22:00. The Chief Stewardess decides how your hours are split, and the yoga slots are built into the interior rota. Crew who do well are organised, calm under pressure and happy to switch from instructor to steward in the time it takes to change uniform.

Questions crew ask
Do I need interior experience, or is a yoga qualification enough?
Most captains want at least one season as a steward or strong hospitality experience ashore. The yoga is a bonus on top of a capable interior crew member, not a replacement for one.
How much yoga will I actually teach?
It depends on the owner and the charter guests. Some weeks you teach twice a day, other weeks not at all, and you work as a full steward the rest of the time.
Will I earn more than a regular steward?
Usually yes, typically around €300 to €600 a month more, depending on yacht size and how often classes are expected. Charter tips are shared with the rest of the crew as normal.
