What the job is

A yacht concierge looks after the guest programme beyond the boat. You book restaurants in Saint-Tropez, secure cabanas at Nikki Beach, arrange cars at the airport, charter helicopters and organise private tours of Pompeii or a vineyard in Corsica. On large yachts with busy owners and charter parties, this is a full time job. You sit within the interior department and work closely with the purser, the captain and the chief stewardess.

The work starts long before guests arrive. You read the preference sheet, research the itinerary, call ahead to venues and build a day by day plan with backups for bad weather. Once guests are on board you are the person they ask when they want a table for twelve tonight or a yoga teacher at 07:00. You confirm, brief the tender driver, chase the booking and keep a clear record of every cost for the APA.

Good concierges hold a strong contact book across the Mediterranean and Caribbean, and they keep it up to date. Many come from five star hotels, private aviation or luxury travel. You also help the interior team with service when guests are on board, so you need to be comfortable on a tray and in a uniform. Discretion matters: you know where guests go, who they meet and what they spend.

What makes a good one

  • Strong contact book of venues and suppliers
  • Calm, quick problem solving
  • Accurate cost tracking for APA
  • Second or third language
  • Polished guest manner and discretion

Questions crew ask

Do I need yacht experience to become a yacht concierge?

Not always. Many captains hire from five star hotel concierge desks, private aviation or luxury travel, as long as you hold STCW and an ENG1 and can help with interior service.

Will I also work as a stewardess or steward?

Usually yes, especially when guests are on board. Expect to help with service, guest arrivals and turndown when the programme is quiet.

Which yachts hire a dedicated concierge?

Mostly yachts over 70m with heavy charter programmes or very active owners. On smaller boats the purser or chief stewardess covers the role.
